Helping students feel seen, heard and connected is the focus of a Spring Branch ISD (SBISD) System of Care project awarded a 2026 J. Landon Short Mini Grant for Educators.

Amy Hancock and co-applicant Leonard Rago received the grant for “SEEN: A Student Voices Prevention Project.” Through opportunities to share their perspectives, students can build connections that support their well-being and strengthen their sense of belonging.

The project puts student voices at the center, recognizing that listening to students is an important part of helping them thrive. It reflects System of Care’s work to support students and connect them with caring adults and resources.

Made possible by generous community partners, the J. Landon Short Mini Grants for Educators help SBISD educators turn creative ideas into meaningful experiences for students. When our community invests in educators’ ideas, new possibilities open for kids.

The System of Care team

SBISD’s System of Care recognizes that success in school involves more than academics. Working alongside school counselors, teachers and families, the team helps students build healthy relationships, navigate challenges and prepare for their futures. By connecting families with resources and helping students feel seen, heard and supported, these efforts strengthen students’ well-being, confidence and readiness to learn.
